An alleged female drug peddler, Mahfooza Begum, has been detained under the stringent Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, authorities disclosed on Wednesday.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Kishtwar, Abdul Qayoom confirmed that the detention of Begum, a resident of Sarkoot village, forms part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at addressing the rampant drug abuse plaguing the district.
Further investigations revealed Begum's involvement in numerous drug peddling cases, prompting her detention under the PIT NDPS Act to prevent her from continuing such endeavors and to protect Kishtwar's youth from drug addiction. Begum has been lodged in the Bhaderwah district jail. According to Qayoom, the police's strategy includes organizing district-wide awareness campaigns and enforcing stringent measures against drug traffickers. He also called on the community for their support in eradicating the drug menace.
