The Mumbai police have registered a case against more than 200 individuals, apprehending 57, following a stone-pelting incident during an anti-encroachment drive in Powai. The clash resulted in injuries to 15 police personnel, five civic engineers, and five laborers, according to an official.
Police have charged those involved with obstructing public servants and rioting. They have since been remanded in judicial custody, an official confirmed on Friday.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) initiated the drive under directives from the State Human Right Commission, targeting allegedly illegal structures in Powaigaon and Mauje Tirandaj village. The situation escalated when residents, claiming they had lived there for 25 years, began protesting. Videos of the incident have since gone viral on social media.
