DSP Suspended Over Akhnoor Accident Tragedy

The Jammu and Kashmir administration suspended DSP Satish Kumar for dereliction of duty related to a major accident on May 30, which resulted in 22 deaths and 64 injuries in Akhnoor. The officer will remain attached to police headquarters during the suspension.

JAMMU, Jun 20 (PTI) - In a decisive move following a devastating accident, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has suspended Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Satish Kumar of the traffic wing. The suspension comes in the wake of a tragic incident last month that claimed the lives of 22 people and injured 64 more.

The accident occurred on May 30 in the Akhnoor area, when a bus carrying 86 devotees veered off the Jammu-Poonch highway and plunged into a 150-foot gorge. The vehicle, reportedly navigating a blind curve at Tungi Morh, lost control, resulting in the unparalleled mishap.

Principal Secretary of Home Department, Chandraker Bharti, announced the immediate suspension of DSP Kumar under the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Classification, Control & Appeal) Rules, 1956. Kumar will remain attached to the police headquarters during the suspension. This action follows the suspension of six transport department officials on May 31 for alleged negligence connected to the tragic event.
