EU Greenlights Accession Talks with Ukraine and Moldova

The European Union has formally approved the initiation of accession talks with Ukraine and Moldova. This marks a significant step forward in their long journey to join the 27-nation bloc, with the first negotiations set to begin on June 25 in Luxembourg.

In a landmark decision, European Union countries officially sanctioned the commencement of accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova. This pivotal move represents a crucial milestone in the two nations' ongoing journey to become part of the 27-nation EU bloc.

Belgium, currently presiding over the European Union, confirmed that member states have reached an accord on a negotiating framework. 'This opens the way for launching the negotiations on Tuesday 25 June in Luxembourg,' announced the Belgian presidency.

Previously, following favorable evaluations from the EU's executive branch, EU leaders had consented last year that accession talks should commence with both Ukraine and Moldova. The entire process, spanning from the start of negotiations to full membership, may extend over several years.
