Recruitment Scam Rocks Belgaum Cantonment Board: CBI Probes Bribe Allegations

A recruitment scam involving bribes ranging from Rs 15-25 lakh has been uncovered at the Belgaum Cantonment Board. The CBI has booked five officials and 14 candidates for their involvement. A preliminary inquiry revealed corruption and favoritism in the recruitment process, affecting various job positions.

In a significant development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has uncovered a recruitment scam at the Belgaum Cantonment Board, alleging that candidates paid bribes of up to Rs 25 lakh for various job positions.

The CBI's First Information Report (FIR), disclosed on Friday, accused five officials and 14 candidates of corruption. The probe began last year following a complaint of illicit practices in the 2022-23 recruitment process.

Investigations revealed that bribes influenced the selection of 31 candidates for roles ranging from mechanic to dai. Notably, the scam favored candidates linked to officials, undermining fair hiring practices.
