The Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh Police, on Sunday, apprehended a notorious criminal for allegedly impersonating the chief minister's secretary and defrauding government officials over the phone.
According to a statement released by the STF, Vivek Sharma, also known as Bantu Chaudhary, was arrested in Basti district. Sharma, who deceived administrative officials and the general public by making fraudulent phone calls under the guise of the CM's Secretary, confessed to his acts.
Police sources revealed that Sharma recently attempted to deceive the district magistrate and chief development officer of Basti by calling their official numbers, introducing himself as the chief minister's secretary. Notably, his mobile number appeared as "Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath" on the 'True-Caller' app.
A case has been registered against Sharma under sections 419, 420, 384, and 507 of the IPC at Basti's Kotwali police station. Numerous other cases are also listed against him in Aligarh, Balrampur, Mathura, Kanpur Nagar, and Hardoi districts for fraud and related crimes.
