Amit Shah Addresses Concerns on New Criminal Laws

On Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that the three new criminal laws will be available in all regional languages, including Tamil. Shah addressed concerns regarding the names of these laws, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to resolve any issues.

The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) officially replaced the British-era Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Indian Evidence Act, respectively, as of Monday.

“I assure you that the entire law will be available in Tamil, and proceedings will also be conducted in Tamil. If there are still objections regarding the names, a combined effort is necessary for resolution. I appeal to the concerned stakeholders to come forward with their grievances,” Shah stated at a press conference.

Shah's comments were in response to questions about objections raised by Tamil Nadu MPs over the Hindi naming of the new laws. The Home Minister confirmed that these laws will be available in all languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

“If anyone has objections to the names, they are welcome to meet me. However, neither the Tamil Nadu chief minister nor any MPs have sought an audience with me regarding this issue,” Shah added.
