Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed the registration of the first case under India's newly implemented criminal justice laws. The focus, Shah asserted, is on delivering justice rather than merely punitive measures.
Shah called on opposition parties to abstain from politicizing the reforms, which aim to modernize the judicial system by replacing outdated British-era statutes. He highlighted that the new laws promise expedited justice, with cases expected to reach the Supreme Court within three years of filing an FIR.
While the ruling BJP hailed the laws as symbols of India's progress, critics, including senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, decried the reforms as 'draconian' and 'undiscussed.' Shah, however, emphasized that the new statutes had undergone thorough debate and scrutiny before their implementation.
