In a gruesome incident, the bodies of newborn twins with slit throats were found in their house in the remote village of Chajjla-Keyani in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on Wednesday, according to an official statement.

The father of the female infants has been detained for questioning as investigations proceed. Mendhar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Bhupinder Kumar said that a team was dispatched to the scene upon receiving information about the horrifying discovery.

The bodies have been moved to the sub-district hospital in Mendhar for post-mortem examinations. Block Medical Officer Ashfaq Choudhary noted that a board of doctors is conducting the autopsies, after which the bodies will be handed over to the police for further inquiries.
