Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Judges for Elevation

The Supreme Court collegium, led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, has recommended Justices N Kotiswar Singh and R Mahadevan for elevation to the apex court. Justice Singh is currently Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, while Justice Mahadevan is Acting Chief Justice of Madras High Court.

The Supreme Court collegium, under Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, has proposed the elevation of Justices N Kotiswar Singh and R Mahadevan to the apex court.

Justice Singh, currently the Chief Justice of the High Court for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, and Justice Mahadevan, the Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, have been recommended based on their seniority and merit.

The collegium emphasized Justice Singh's judiciary and administrative contributions, noting he would be the first Supreme Court judge from Manipur, enhancing the court's regional diversity. Justice Mahadevan's appointment aims to bring diversity through representation of a backward community from Tamil Nadu.
