Samantha Power, administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development, announced Thursday that Israel has committed to measures that will allow humanitarian aid workers to move more swiftly and safely in Gaza. Power shared these developments in an interview with The Associated Press.

According to Power, Israel has taken steps to increase aid flow through Ashdod port, providing an alternative to the U.S.'s maritime aid route off Gaza's coast. Despite ongoing conflict, these efforts aim to alleviate Gaza's humanitarian crisis where 80% of its 2.3 million residents have been displaced.

Power revealed that the coordination between humanitarian groups and the Israeli military has improved, although challenges persist, including logistical bottlenecks and security risks. An improved system for real-time coordination has been established, and Israel plans to extend this across Gaza. Additionally, the U.S. has pledged $100 million to aid efforts, emphasizing the need for a cease-fire to significantly improve conditions.
