India has reiterated its historic commitment to the peaceful resolution of the Palestine question, advocating for a negotiated two-state solution. India’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador R Ravindra, voiced this stance at a UNRWA conference on Friday, emphasizing the need for a sovereign Palestinian state existing peacefully alongside Israel.
Ambassador Ravindra condemned the civilian casualties in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict and demanded the unconditional release of all hostages. He underscored India's developmental and humanitarian support to Palestine, including a pledge of USD 5 million annually to UNRWA and scholarships for Palestinian students.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres reinforced the urgency of continued support for UNRWA, calling for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza. UNRWA's Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini highlighted funding shortfalls, warning that the Agency’s operations are threatened beyond August without significant new contributions.
