In a swift operation, Punjab Police on Sunday arrested two gangsters, Deepak and Ramandeep Singh, after a brief encounter near Rajpura in Patiala district. The duo was allegedly involved in two separate firing incidents the previous night, law enforcement officials confirmed.
The first firing took place at the Rajpura-Patiala toll plaza and was followed by a second incident at a liquor vend in Rajpura. When police intercepted the suspects coming from Mohali, they reportedly opened fire, prompting a retaliatory response that resulted in one of the gangsters being injured.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav announced the arrests, noting the prompt action resolved both cases within 12 hours. Police recovered weapons and live cartridges, and identified the suspects' involvement in a previous gang rivalry shootout in Jalandhar district.
