Tragedy Strikes as Missing Sanitary Worker’s Body Found in Kerala Canal

The Kerala government announced on Monday that the body of 47-year-old Joy, a sanitary worker who went missing while cleaning a waste-filled canal in the state capital, was found. The discovery brings an end to a massive 46-hour search involving multiple agencies.

Authorities confirmed that the decomposed body found in the Amayizhanchan canal was indeed that of Joy. The body was located by corporation sanitation workers on the Pazhavangadi-Thakaraparambu-Vanchiyoor road, who alerted the police and ward councillor.

An expert team from the Indian Navy had joined the search operation that began Saturday. Following the identification of Joy's body, the police, Fire Force, and NDRF concluded their efforts. The body was sent for a post-mortem at Government Medical College Hospital, attended by Thiruvananthapuram Mayor Arya Rajendran, who expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy.
