Mizoram minister Lalsawivunga claims the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) has achieved more in seven months than the Mizo National Front (MNF) and Congress did in 37 years of rule.
Addressing a ZPM office function on Monday, Lalsawivunga criticized the previous MNF government for leaving liabilities exceeding Rs 13,500 crore, almost 95.6% of the state's annual budget of Rs 14,209.94 crore for the 2023-24 fiscal year. He noted that the current government has had to secure loans due to the inherited financial burdens.
Lalsawivunga lauded the ZPM government for using borrowed funds effectively, clearing pending medical and power bills, and ensuring timely salary and pension payments. He accused the MNF and Congress of unconstructive criticism and baseless accusations driven by the ZPM's achievements.
The ZPM won 27 out of 40 seats in the state assembly elections in December last year, marking a significant transition of power.
