On Tuesday, farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal stated that farmers would head towards Delhi whenever the national highway, barricaded at Shambhu border near Ambala, Haryana, is opened.
This statement follows a Punjab and Haryana High Court order instructing the Haryana government to remove barricades at the Shambhu border on an 'experimental basis.' The Haryana government has appealed to the Supreme Court, citing law and order concerns. Farmers have been camping at the border since February 13, advocating for a legal guarantee for minimum support price (MSP) for crops.
Addressing the media, Dallewal confirmed the farmers' intent to persist in their 'Delhi Chalo' program until their demands are met. He also emphasized that farmers did not blockade the highway. The High Court's July 10 order called for opening the barricades within a week and directed the Punjab government to manage the protesters.
