A senior functionary of Naam Tamilar Katchi, Balasubramanian, was brutally hacked to death by an unidentified gang while on a morning walk in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, on Tuesday, according to police reports.

While the ruling DMK dismissed opposition claims of a law and order breakdown, an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident. The police suspect a potential revenge motive due to Balasubramanian's alleged involvement in financial disputes.

NTK chief coordinator Seeman and Tamil Nadu BJP vice president Narayanan Thirupathy condemned the act, calling for immediate arrests and criticizing the state government's handling of law and order. DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai countered these charges, asserting that law and order were well maintained in the state.
