A court has condemned a man to life imprisonment for the brutal rape of a five-year-old girl, remarking that the child was subjected to 'animal-like passion' by the convict.
Expressing concern over the rising crimes against children, the court underscored the importance of a penalty proportionate to the gravity of the 'heinous act' to serve as effective deterrence.
Additional Sessions Judge Susheel Bala Dagar, presiding over Rohini district court, ruled the case under Section 6 of the POCSO Act, convicting the 28-year-old man also of kidnapping, grievous hurt, and rape.
The perpetrator had bitten the child's cheeks and struck her face, breaking her teeth. The court expressed deep distress at the child's shattered dignity and compelled purity, illustrating the broader societal impact of such crimes.
The judge reiterated the urgent necessity of severe sentences to prevent similar future offenses. Consequently, the convict received life imprisonment under the POCSO Act, along with seven years rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and causing grievous hurt.
The court further addressed the victim's requirement for financial aid due to the incident's extensive impact on her mental, physical, and emotional state, awarding her Rs 10.5 lakh in compensation.
