Self-styled godman Bhole Baba, known by the name Narayan Sakar Hari, addressed the tragic stampede at his 'satsang' event in Hathras, which resulted in 121 deaths. Speaking to PTI Videos, he expressed his deep disturbance but reiterated that destiny is unavoidable and everyone has to die one day.
Referring to a fortnight-old statement where he cited a conspiracy behind the stampede, Bhole Baba maintained that a poisonous spray was used, which triggered the chaos. His lawyer, A P Singh, and eyewitnesses supported this claim. The godman also suggested that some individuals are attempting to undermine his organization, which is based on Sanatan and truth principles.
The Uttar Pradesh government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and a judicial commission to probe the incident. While Bhole Baba was not named as an accused, the SIT report pointed to a potential conspiracy and also highlighted administrative lapses. Nine individuals, including main organizer Devprakash Madhukar, have been arrested so far.
