Imran Khan Seeks Relief from High Court After Fresh Arrest in Corruption Case
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, have petitioned the Islamabad High Court against their recent arrest in a Toshakhana corruption case. This follows their acquittal in an un-Islamic marriage case. Their detention has added to a slew of legal challenges Khan faces post-ouster.

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, have filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court contesting their arrest in a new Toshakhana corruption case. The move comes just after a district and sessions court exonerated them in an un-Islamic marriage case, which involved not adhering to the mandatory waiting period between marriages for a Muslim woman.
Nonetheless, mere hours after their acquittal in the marriage case, Khan and his wife were apprehended by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for allegedly profiting from state gifts acquired at undervalued prices and sold for a profit. Khan's recent legal reliefs, including a Supreme Court ruling favoring his PTI party, indicate shifting dynamics but also reveal a complex legal landscape.
The couple's plea for relief has seen PTI supporters rallying at Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi. However, they face further setbacks as Khan was arrested by Punjab police in connection with 12 new terrorism cases linked to last year's May 9 riots. The Islamabad High Court has previously suspended Khan's sentences in two earlier Toshakhana cases, but the latest arrest compounds his ongoing legal battles post his April 2022 ousting.
