Delhi Police are set to record statements from additional staff at the Kuwait Embassy in a molestation case involving a 20-year-old housekeeping employee, an official revealed on Thursday. The accused, 70-year-old Abu Bakar, works as a laundry man at the Embassy in Chanakyapuri and was arrested after an FIR was filed on Wednesday. Both the accused and the victim are Indian citizens.
The investigation is currently underway, and more statements may be gathered in the coming days, the official added. A PCR call, reportedly from the victim's husband, alerted officials to the alleged molestation incident.
Bakar has been employed at the embassy for the past two years and is accused of sexually harassing the woman while she was on duty. Under section 74 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) act, a case was registered at the Chanakyapuri police station. The Kuwait Embassy clarified that both parties involved are Indian citizens and no Kuwaiti national is connected to the case. The investigation and court directive will determine further action from the Embassy. Meanwhile, the complainant continues her routine work at the Embassy.
