The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) has raised serious concerns about illegal Bangladeshi immigration in Meghalaya. According to HANM president Lamphrang Kharbani, touts in the state are charging between Rs 10,000 and Rs 20,000 per person to facilitate illegal entry through damaged or unfenced portions of the border.
In a meeting with Meghalaya DGP I Nongrang, HANM sought urgent intervention to halt these illegal activities. Kharbani emphasized that around 20 percent of the international border in Meghalaya remains unfenced due to steep terrain, rivers, and wildlife migration corridors.
A senior home department official confirmed that the government is committed to stopping illegal entry and has also engaged the BSF for coordinated action. Amid escalating violence in Bangladesh, pro-ILP activists in Meghalaya are intensifying efforts to monitor and prevent infiltration.
