Fake Call Centre Bust in Goa: Seven Arrested

Seven individuals hailing from various states were arrested in Goa for running a fake call centre. They posed as staffers of loan firms and other organizations to dupe US citizens, leading to charges under multiple legal sections. Equipment was seized, and investigations are ongoing.

Seven persons were arrested for allegedly operating a fake call centre from a hotel in north Goa, a police official disclosed on Friday.

The individuals arrested come from states such as Gujarat, Assam, Nagaland, and Rajasthan.

Superintendent of Police (Cyber Crime) Rahul Gupta revealed that the police raided a hotel in Calangute, dismantling the call centre and detaining the seven suspects. They were found impersonating staff from various loan companies, e-commerce platforms, banks, and government agencies to defraud US citizens through voice calls and money transfers.

The accused were identified as Vishal Vaghela (34, Baroda, Gujarat), Acharya Balkrishna (28, Ahmedabad, Gujarat), H Puloto Awomi (20, Nagaland), Dhananjay Singh (27, Rajasthan), Chunjang Lung Rongmei (31, Assam), Inovi Zhimomi (21, Nagaland) and Vikito Kiho (21, Nagaland).

The suspects were charged under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Information Technology Act, covering unlawful activities, impersonation, and fraud. The police also recovered four laptops, a TP-Link router, and a D-Link switch during the raid, with further investigations underway.
