Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the supremo of Tipra Motha, has called on the Indian government to intensify border security measures in light of the turmoil in Bangladesh.
Violence in Bangladesh has significant repercussions for bordering northeastern states such as Tripura, where past unrest in East Pakistan/Bangladesh has brought considerable hardship.
Debbarma emphasized the need for stringent land laws in the sixth schedule areas to protect tribal communities from the impacts of illegal migration.
Meanwhile, following days of violent clashes over government job allocation, Bangladesh has imposed a strict curfew, with military forces patrolling parts of the capital, Dhaka.
Protests have erupted demanding an end to the quota system reserving a significant portion of government jobs for relatives of war veterans. Indian authorities have stated that the border currently appears normal, and Indian citizens in Bangladesh can return through designated checkposts.
