Brijesh Pal, a daily wager in Muzaffarnagar, struggles to find work as new government orders mandate eatery owners, like his employer Mohammad Arsalan, display their names. Brijesh Pal, a seasonal worker in Muzaffarnagar, finds himself unexpectedly jobless this year due to a new government order. Traditionally, Pal would work at a local dhaba during the 'Shravan' season, earning Rs 400-600 daily plus meals. However, his employer, Mohammad Arsalan, can no longer afford extra staff under the new rules.

The order, which requires owners of eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to display their names, has sparked controversy. Critics argue it unfairly targets Muslim business owners, such as Arsalan, who fears losing customers due to his Muslim identity. His dhaba, 'Baba ka Dhaba', has already seen a decline in business.

The directive, which has been extended across Uttar Pradesh and is already in place in Uttarakhand, has been met with backlash from various sectors. Local politicians and civil society members argue that the order exacerbates religious divisions and primarily harms small business owners and daily wagers.
