Israeli Air Defences Thwart Yemen Missile Attack Amid Regional Tensions
Israeli air defences successfully intercepted a missile from Yemen on Sunday, the military confirmed. Yemen's Houthi movement claimed responsibility, targeting Eilat. This incident follows an Israeli airstrike on Houthi targets in response to a drone attack on Tel Aviv, stoking fears of escalating regional conflict amid ongoing Gaza tensions.
Israeli air defences intercepted a surface-to-surface missile fired from Yemen on Sunday, the military said. Yemen's Houthi movement claimed responsibility, stating it had targeted the Israeli Red Sea city of Eilat with multiple missiles. The Israeli military confirmed its Arrow 3 missile defence system successfully neutralized the threat before it crossed into Israeli territory.
Air raid sirens blared in Eilat before the interception, causing residents to seek shelter. This latest exchange between Israel and the Iran-backed Houthis came after Israeli fighter jets struck Houthi military targets near Yemen's Hodeidah port on Saturday, resulting in three fatalities and 87 injuries.
The airstrike responded to a long-range drone attack launched by the Houthis that hit Tel Aviv's center on Friday, killing one person and injuring four others. Israeli officials stated this action followed over 200 Houthi attacks on Israel, raising fears that the Hamas-led Gaza war could escalate into a broader regional conflict.
