Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Jayant Chaudhary on Sunday demanded the Uttar Pradesh government revoke its order requiring eateries along the Kanwar route to display owners' names.

Chaudhary emphasized that Kanwariyas do not inquire about the religion of those providing services and stated the issue should not be linked to any religion.

The Muzaffarnagar Police had initially issued the order, which the Uttar Pradesh government later extended across the state, drawing criticism from opposition parties and ruling alliance members who argue it targets Muslim traders.

Chaudhary, a Rajya Sabha member, expressed concern that the decision appeared thoughtless and insisted it should be rolled back or not enforced vigorously.

At an all-party meeting, opposition leaders, including Ram Gopal Yadav of the Samajwadi Party, accused the ruling BJP of divisive politics. The Congress and Aam Aadmi Party also criticized the order, suggesting the matter will be brought up in Parliament.
