In Bahraich district, a violent clash erupted when five people, including a woman, were attacked with sharp-edged weapons as they protested the alleged molestation of three Dalit girls, according to police reports on Monday. The incident led to the arrest of six out of nine accused individuals.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural Area) Pavitra Mohan Tripathi informed PTI that the altercation began on Sunday evening when three young women from a Dalit family were allegedly molested by Salman and Aslam, who run a meat shop at Bodhwa intersection. The confrontation escalated when family members and locals intervened, resulting in the attackers using meat cutters as weapons.

One girl and four men sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment, with one severely injured man transferred to the district hospital in Bahraich. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Given the involvement of two communities, significant police presence has been deployed to maintain control over the situation.
