Supreme Court Calls for Stringent Measures to Prevent Uttarakhand Forest Fires

The Supreme Court emphasized the need for proactive measures to prevent forest fires in Uttarakhand, most of which are man-made. A bench of Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan addressed the issue during a hearing.

Previously, the court observed that saving forests from fires is crucial. On May 17, the court noted that forest fire litigation in Uttarakhand isn't adversarial. The bench insisted on implementing preventative measures before the next season as rains have begun in the hill state.

The court heard that state officials, including the Solicitor General, have been actively working on the issue. Meetings have been held, with more scheduled for August. The matter will be reviewed in September to ensure comprehensive steps are in place.
