The Delhi High Court on Tuesday transferred the investigation of the case involving the death of 23-year-old Faizan, who was seen in a viral video being assaulted during the 2020 communal riots, to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The court's decision came after Faizan's mother filed a petition for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the case. Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani noted that the policemen involved in the incident acted out of religious bigotry, violating human rights. He emphasized that mob-vigilantism by law enforcers aggravates the crime.

Observing anomalies in the police investigation, the court remarked it was insufficient and delayed. Justice Bhambhani highlighted the importance of a fair investigation to maintain the credibility of the justice system and directed the CBI to take over the investigation to instill confidence in its fairness.
