Delhi High Court Mandates Action on Unauthorized Religious Structures

The Delhi High Court has directed various government agencies to file action-taken reports within 10 weeks regarding the removal of unauthorized religious structures based on the recommendations of the Religious Committee. This directive follows the Supreme Court's 2009 order to prevent illegal constructions on public land.

The Delhi High Court has issued a directive to multiple land-owning agencies in the city to reveal the actions taken following the Religious Committee's recommendations for removing unauthorized religious structures.

Headed by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan, the bench ordered entities like the NDMC, DDA, and MCD to file their action-taken reports within 10 weeks. This order is part of a larger judicial mandate from 2009 when the Supreme Court prohibited unauthorized religious construction on public lands.

The Delhi government's counsel informed the court that the Religious Committee has already held 51 meetings and identified 249 cases for action. The bench has listed the matter for a hearing in October to review compliance with these directives.
