Forensic Team Conducts Polygraph Test on Imran Khan Amidst Unprecedented Violence Probe

A 12-member forensic team conducted a polygraph test on former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan at Adiala Jail. This is in connection with the violent May 9, 2023 riots that erupted after Khan’s arrest. The Lahore police led the examination, accompanied by Punjab Forensic Science Agency experts.

A 12-member forensic team arrived at Adiala Jail on Tuesday to conduct a polygraph test on Pakistan's former prime minister Imran Khan, linked to last year's unprecedented violence in the country, according to a media report.

The May 9 riots in 2023 erupted nationwide after the 71-year-old Khan was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in a 190-million-pound corruption case. Facing over 200 lawsuits, Khan has been in prison since August last year.

Leading the forensic investigation was a Lahore police team under the command of a Deputy Superintendent of Police, as reported by the Express Tribune. They were joined by experts from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA).

The PFSA experts performed polygraph, voice matching, and photogrammetry tests on the former prime minister, while the Lahore police team questioned Khan about various aspects of the May 9 incident.

During those protests, alleged PTI workers and supporters attacked and vandalised military installations, including the General Headquarters, as well as monuments.

Following the unprecedented violence, authorities initiated a sweeping crackdown against PTI, holding trials for over 100 PTI workers in military courts.

Civil and military authorities have accused Khan of orchestrating the May 9 conspiracy before his arrest, a claim he and his party strongly deny. Khan maintains that he only asked his party to stage a peaceful protest outside the GHQ in case of his arrest.

Khan has been held in the high-security Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi for nearly a year following convictions in three cases: the Toshakhana corruption case, the cipher case, and the un-Islamic marriage case, where his wife Bushra Bibi is also incarcerated.

Although the former cricketer-turned-politician has secured bail or had convictions set aside, he remains imprisoned. Khan was first arrested on August 5 last year after his conviction in the Toshakhana corruption case filed by the Election Commission of Pakistan, and has since faced multiple jail terms in various cases.
