For the second consecutive day, the Odisha Assembly descended into chaos as opposition parties BJD and Congress called for action against the son of Governor Raghubar Das for allegedly assaulting a government official earlier this month.
The treasury bench accused the opposition of disturbing the Governor during his address on Monday, terming it a punishable offence. The situation escalated when BJD member Dhruba Sahoo attempted to climb the speaker’s podium, breaking the microphone before being restrained by other members.
The Speaker adjourned the House for the day amid the ruckus, with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling emphasizing that disturbances during the Governor’s address are punishable. Opposition Chief Whip Pramila Mallik demanded a statement from Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on the matter, while outside the House, Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj echoed similar sentiments, calling for punishment for those causing the disturbance.
