Two Constables in Thane Accused of Bribery

A case has been filed in Thane district against constables Chandrakant Baban Shinde and Sachin Sadashiv Mane for demanding a Rs 50,000 bribe from a scrap dealer. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) initiated the action after the dealer filed a complaint. The constables had detained his truck.

Authorities in Maharashtra's Thane district have registered a case against two police constables for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a scrap dealer to release his truck loaded with goods, an official said on Wednesday.

The complaint, filed by the Thane unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), led to the filing of the case under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The constables in question are Chandrakant Baban Shinde (44) and Sachin Sadashiv Mane (43), both stationed at the Shivaji Nagar police station.

According to Inspector Vijay Kawle of the Thane ACB, the constables initially demanded Rs 1 lakh from the dealer, eventually reducing the amount to Rs 50,000. The ACB acted upon the dealer's complaint and further investigation followed.
