35 Private Sector Experts Join Central Government via Lateral Entry

The Central Government has appointed 35 private sector specialists in various departments through lateral entry since 2018. These appointments, made at the levels of joint secretary, director, and deputy secretary, aim to leverage their specialized knowledge. Union Minister Jitendra Singh clarified that reservation policy does not apply to these single post appointments.

The Central Government has successfully appointed 35 private sector specialists across different departments through the lateral entry mode, according to a statement made by Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh on Wednesday.

Since 2018, the government has undertaken lateral recruitment at the levels of joint secretary, director, and deputy secretary to tap into the specialized knowledge and expertise of candidates. So far, there have been 63 such appointments, with 35 being from the private sector. Currently, 57 officers occupy these positions in various ministries and departments.

When questioned whether reservation policies were taken into account for lateral entry mode appointments, Minister Singh affirmed that reservation rules do not apply to single post appointments. However, eligible candidates from reserved categories are still considered alongside other candidates.
