Lachhu Kariya Tado, a Naxalite carrying a reward of Rs 2 lakh on his head, surrendered before security forces in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district on Wednesday, officials reported.

Tado, 45, a member of the Bhamragad LOS (Local Organisation Squad), presented himself to police and Central Reserve Police Force officials. He had been involved in arson and other violent activities, according to a press release from the district superintendent of police.

Under the state and central rehabilitation schemes, Tado will receive Rs 4.5 lakh. Officials noted that 22 hardcore Maoists have surrendered to Gadchiroli police in the last 18 months.
