Kharkiv Under Siege: Deadly Strikes Hit Ukrainian City Amid Escalating Conflict
Russia launched a series of attacks on Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, killing three and injuring six. The strikes damaged an office of a Swiss mine-clearing NGO. The region has faced relentless assaults since the invasion began in February 2022. Rescue operations and demining efforts continue amid ongoing violence.
Russia launched a series of attacks on the northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv and its surrounding region on Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of three people and injuring at least six, according to local officials.
Ukraine's second-largest city and the region, which shares a border with Russia, have been subjected to relentless drone, missile, and guided-bomb attacks since Moscow initiated its full-scale invasion in February 2022. Regional police reported that a strike on Lozova, south of Kharkiv, killed three individuals and injured six, with rescue operations ongoing into the evening.
Oleh Syniehubov, the region's governor, stated that an overnight strike severely damaged the facade of the Fondation suisse de déminage's office and several floors' ceilings. Six medical vehicles used by the group were also damaged. Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported five separate strikes on the city, with the latest hitting an industrial area and injuring six people. Late evening and midnight strikes resulted in explosions, but no additional casualties or damage were reported. Russia denies targeting civilians, but the 29-month-old invasion has caused thousands of deaths and injuries.
