Delhi High Court on Thursday mandated the Bar Council of India (BCI) to resolve within six weeks the issue of a minimum stipend for junior lawyers working under advocates, senior advocates, and law firms.

A bench led by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan asked the lawyers' apex body to quickly address a representation submitted in January about this issue.

'The matter must be addressed quickly,' the court stated while hearing the petition from Simran Kumari, which demands a stipend for junior lawyers. The bench included Justice Tushar Rao Gedela.

The BCI counselor assured the court that the representation had been discussed in a meeting but further consideration was postponed. The court also requested inputs from the Bar Council of Delhi on the matter.
