The Delhi High Court has granted Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal permission to hold two additional virtual meetings with his lawyers each week while in jail, recognizing that special situations require special remedies.
Previously, Kejriwal was only entitled to two meetings per week under prison rules. Justice Neena Bansal Krishna acknowledged the necessity for effective legal representation and fair trial, given that Kejriwal is dealing with around 35 cases nationwide.
Despite strong opposition from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Tihar jail authorities, the court emphasized that this decision does not represent special treatment but rather the enforcement of a fundamental right. Similar relief had been granted to co-accused AAP leader Sanjay Singh.
