Lukashenko Promises Stronger Ties with North Korea

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has committed to deepening cooperation with North Korea. This announcement came in response to North Korea’s congratulations on Belarus’ National Day. The cooperation aims to enhance mutual benefits and strengthen ties amidst increasing diplomatic isolation of Russia.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has vowed to intensify cooperation with North Korea, according to a message addressed to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The announcement was shared by North Korea's foreign ministry on its website on Friday.

'I affirm that I will work to further expand cooperation with the DPRK to make it full of new content, and common programmes of giving mutual benefits to the improved well-being of the peoples of our countries,' Lukashenko's statement read, referring to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea by its official name.

The message was in response to Pyongyang's congratulations on Belarus' National Day. Both nations maintain close relations with Russia, which is facing greater diplomatic isolation globally after its military actions in Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

Additionally, Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Vladimirovich Ruzenkov visited North Korea this week, engaging with senior North Korean officials, including Premier Kim Tok Hun and Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui. During a reception in Pyongyang's Koryo Hotel, Choe emphasized 'comprehensively boosting relations' between the two countries, as reported by state media KCNA.
