On July 26, 2024, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully evacuated all 14 Indian crew members from the bulk carrier JSW Raigad, which had run aground near Alibaug, Maharashtra. The distress call was received by the ICG Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Mumbai at 13:27 hours on July 25, 2024.

The vessel, measuring 122 meters, had run aground on reefs approximately one nautical mile from Alibaug. It experienced severe issues including anchor dragging, flooding in the engine room, and loss of control. Given the extreme sea conditions along the Maharashtra coast and the presence of reefs in the area, airlift was deemed the only feasible rescue option.

The ICG initiated the rescue operation in the early hours of July 26, 2024. Despite challenging weather conditions, a Coast Guard helicopter successfully airlifted all 14 crew members from the bulk carrier. The crew were safely brought to Alibaug beach, with no injuries reported.

ICG Station Murud Janjira is coordinating with local authorities to provide medical aid and additional support to the crew. The situation is under continuous monitoring to ensure the safety of the vessel and the surrounding environment.
