A 10-year-old boy, identified as Hidma Kawasi, tragically succumbed to injuries caused by a pressure Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Naxals in Chhattisgarh on Saturday. Villagers and CRPF personnel faced challenging terrain and swollen rivers, delaying his transport to Bijapur district hospital, which ultimately contributed to his demise.
Kawasi was grazing goats near Pidiya Murumpara village when he accidentally triggered the IED, resulting in severe leg injuries. His mother, who was nearby, escaped unhurt. Villagers carried the severely injured boy for 10 kilometers to the CRPF's Mutvendi camp, navigating flooded rivers and tough terrain.
Upon reaching the camp, the injured boy received initial medical treatment. CRPF personnel then tried to transfer him to Bijapur district hospital, but an overflowing bridge delayed their journey. The State Disaster Response Force eventually assisted, but the boy succumbed to excessive blood loss at the hospital. This marks the sixth IED-related fatality in Bijapur district in the last three-and-a-half months.
