MCD Sealing Drive in Mukharji Nagar Shuts Down UPSC Coaching Centres

The Muncipal Corporation of Delhi launched a sealing drive targeting illegal establishments in Mukharji Nagar, primarily affecting UPSC coaching centres. This follows an incident where three UPSC aspirants died due to flooding in Rau's IAS Study Circle's basement. The MCD is taking actions to prevent similar tragedies and regulate basement usage.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) initiated a sealing drive in northwest Delhi's Mukharji Nagar on Monday, targeting illegal establishments, particularly UPSC coaching centres. This move follows the tragic death of three civil services aspirants at Rau's IAS Study Circle in Old Rajinder Nagar after heavy rains inundated the basement library, causing a failure in the biometric entry and exit system.

An MCD official noted that actions are being taken against establishments using basements illegally in the area. The drive is expected to expand city-wide to curb illegal operations from basements. As a result, many libraries in Mukharji Nagar’s coaching centres have shut down, affecting UPSC aspirants preparing for upcoming exams.

In response to the Old Rajinder Nagar incident, the MCD has terminated one officer, suspended another, and launched an anti-encroachment drive targeting illegal structures contributing to waterlogging. On Sunday, the civic body sealed 13 illegal coaching centres in Old Rajinder Nagar, including Rau's IAS Study Circle.
