A tragic mass shooting Sunday at Maplewood Park in Rochester, upstate New York, resulted in one death and at least six injuries.

The Rochester police responded around 6:20 pm to reports of shots fired at a large gathering and found several individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Among the victims was an adult in their 20s who succumbed to injuries. Another individual sustained life-threatening injuries, while five others were hospitalized with minor injuries, Captain Greg Bello confirmed.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification. Various law enforcement agencies, including the Irondequoit Police, Monroe County Sheriff's Office, and New York State Police, joined the Rochester police at the scene. Authorities confirmed the incident occurred during a party at the park.

Captain Bello stated, “At this point, we don't know how many people were shooting. We are trying to work our way through as many witnesses as we can.” No suspects have been detained, and police have requested anyone with video footage of the event to contact Major Crimes, Crime Stoppers, or their local 311-911 services.

Rochester is located approximately 340 miles northwest of Manhattan.
