Uttar Pradesh Minister Baby Rani Maurya informed the state assembly on Monday that there are no plans to increase the monthly pension for destitute women from the current Rs 1,000. The pension is provided under the 'Niraashrit Mahila Pension Yojana' scheme.

During Question Hour, Congress member Aradhana Misra questioned whether the government would consider raising the pension to Rs 1,500. However, the Women Welfare, Child Development and Nutrition Minister clarified that an increase is not currently under consideration following the death of a spouse.

Minister Maurya also revealed that 4,51,692 applications were received in the financial year 2022-23, and all were approved for the pension scheme. Misra urged Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who was present in the House, to also provide sewing machines to these women alongside the pension to help them lead better lives.
