FBI Details Pennsylvania Man's Attempted Assassination of Trump
An assassination attempt on Donald Trump by Thomas Crooks was foiled on July 13. The FBI is investigating the timeline and motives. Crooks, who conducted several suspicious online searches, was shot dead by a Secret Service agent. Trump sustained injuries and will participate in a victim's interview.
An assassination attempt on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was disrupted on July 13 after Pennsylvania law enforcement identified the would-be assailant, Thomas Crooks, over an hour before the attack. An FBI official, Kevin Rojek, revealed these details during a briefing.
A local officer photographed Crooks and shared it with other law enforcement at the scene of Trump's rally. Later, around 5:56 p.m., Crooks was observed acting suspiciously. Moments before the attack, SWAT teams noted his movements. By 6:08 p.m., Crooks was seen on a police dashboard camera from where he eventually fired the shots.
Although not leading the investigation, the FBI is reconstructing the events. Crooks was fatally shot by a Secret Service agent. He had made multiple firearm-related purchases and shown interest in mass shootings, indicating premeditation. Trump, despite his criticism of the FBI, agreed to a standard victim's interview.
