Governmental Responses to Farmers' Welfare

Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan criticized the previous UPA government for not offering 50% profit to farmers on the minimum support price (MSP) as advised by the Swaminathan Commission. During a Lok Sabha session, he addressed questions on the farmers' protests and highlighted the current government's commitment to increasing MSP for crops.

Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has accused the previous UPA government of failing to provide a 50% profit margin on the minimum support price (MSP) for crops, based on the Swaminathan Commission's recommendations.

During the Lok Sabha's Question Hour, Congress MP Deepender Hooda raised supplementary questions regarding the farmers' protests of 2020-21 and the deaths of approximately 750 farmers. He inquired whether the government would offer jobs to the families of those deceased during the protests against the now-repealed farm laws.

Chouhan responded by stating that the government is firmly committed to farmers’ welfare and highlighted that the MSP for several crops has been increased by the current administration led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
