The legal activist group Manos Limpias, known for targeting leftist politicians, alleges Gomez used her position for business deals. Sanchez insists the accusations are part of a smear campaign against his coalition government.

The Public Prosecutors' office recommended the case be dismissed, but a provincial court allowed the investigation to continue. Judge Carlos Peinado will decide whether to throw out the allegations or proceed to trial.
