Ajmer Court Acquits 15 in Decade-Old Extortion Case

A special court in Ajmer acquitted 15 individuals, including an IPS officer, in a decade-old extortion case citing lack of evidence. The group, arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau in 2013, faced charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act and IPC but were cleared of all charges due to insufficient legal proof.

A special court in Ajmer on Tuesday acquitted 15 people, including 11 SHOs and an IPS officer, accused in a decade-old extortion case. The court's decision was based on the lack of conclusive evidence.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) had arrested the then Ajmer Superintendent of Police, Rajesh Meena, and middleman Ramdev Thathera in January 2013 for allegedly extorting money from Station House Officers. Additional officers and a civilian were also implicated.

The ACB's case was undermined by the lack of written source information and substantial evidence. Transcripts of phone calls were ruled inadmissible. Despite accusations and the recovery of cash, the court acquitted all accused, including Meena, now serving as IG-Security in Jaipur.
