Aaditya Thackeray Calls for Long-term Flood Solutions in Pune

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray on Tuesday criticized the handling of floodwater release from the Khadakwasla dam in Pune, which resulted in substantial losses for residents of the Sinhgad Road area. Thackeray emphasized the urgency of establishing long-term flood solutions.

While addressing reporters after visiting the affected areas, Thackeray assured that strict action would be taken against officials, including the commissioner, once the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition returns to power. He condemned the current state government's approach and held them responsible for the unplanned floodwater release, which marooned several residential areas along the Mutha river on July 25.

Thackeray also criticized the state government for replicating Ahmedabad's Sabarmati riverfront project in Pune without considering local peculiarities. He urged civic authorities to provide assurances against a recurrence of the flood incident and pushed for a comprehensive review of long-term solutions, including the proposal for a retaining wall along the river.
